Who I am
Berkshire IT Services is the trading name of Paul Kirby, a fully mobile computer support business based in Ascot, Berkshire. For UK data protection law, I am the "data controller" of the personal information described below. You can reach me any time on (01344) 288177.
What information I collect
I only collect what you choose to give me, either over the phone or through the enquiry form on my website:
- Your name
- Your phone number
- Your email address, if you give one
- Your preferred appointment time and day, if you choose them
- Your location (town or postcode, so I know where to visit)
- A description of your device and the problem you need help with
Why I use it
I use your details to answer your enquiries, arrange and carry out the support you have booked (remote sessions by secure screen share, or visits to your home or office), and keep simple records of the work I have done for you.
My lawful bases
Under UK GDPR I rely on two lawful bases: contract โ because I need your details to provide the service you have asked for โ and legitimate interests โ so I can keep accurate records of work carried out and respond properly if you contact me again.
Storage and how long I keep it
Enquiry records are held on systems hosted by Cloudflare. If you do not go on to become a customer, I keep enquiry records for up to 24 months, then delete them. If you do become a customer, I keep records of work completed for as long as needed for warranty and accounting purposes.
Who else handles your information
I am a sole trader with no staff and no subcontractors, so nobody else routinely sees your information. To deliver the service I use a small number of named providers, and only for the purpose shown:
- Cloudflare — hosts this website and the systems my enquiry and job records live on, and delivers my own notification emails. Booking form details are not stored on this website. They are emailed to me and sent to my phone as a notification. My email is hosted by Cloudflare.
- Remote support tools — when a job is done by screen share, the session runs through a remote-desktop tool. I normally use RustDesk or Chrome Remote Desktop, and may also use AnyDesk, Microsoft Quick Assist or Zoho Assist. A session starts only with your explicit consent and stays visible on your screen the whole time.
- Pushover — when a booking request comes in, I receive a notification on my phone that includes the request details. Pushover is a third-party notification service, and it handles that notification under its own privacy notice.
- PayPal — if you pay by PayPal, the payment is processed by PayPal under its own terms and its own privacy notice. I never see or store your card or bank details.
- Your bank — if you pay by bank transfer, the money moves directly between your bank and mine, and I do not hold your bank details in any system of mine.
This website is phone-first, and it also has an online booking form. The form takes your name and phone number, and optionally your email address, town, service, preferred time and day, and notes. It sends those details to me by email and as a notification on my phone, and it checks for spam with Cloudflare Turnstile. The form does not store your details on this website. It takes no card payments either. When you send a booking request, your internet address (IP address) is held briefly in memory to limit repeated submissions, and it is sent to Cloudflare Turnstile to check for automated abuse. It is not stored on this website. And as set out below, I do not use advertising trackers, and analytics cookies are set only if you click Accept analytics on the cookie banner.
Cookies, analytics and local storage
I do not run advertising trackers. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views on this site without setting cookies. Google Analytics is switched on only if you click Accept analytics on the cookie banner. If you accept, Google sets two analytics cookies, _ga and _ga_EY61Q4WXNH, and receives the pages you visit, your device type and your approximate location. Google handles that data under its own privacy policy. If you reject, or ignore the banner, Google Analytics does not load and sets no cookies.
Your browser also keeps two items in local storage, which is not a cookie: your display preference (light or dark mode and text size), and your cookie choice. Clearing your browser settings removes them. You can change your analytics choice at any time from Cookie settings in the footer.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of the information I hold about you, and to ask me to correct it, delete it, restrict its use, move it to another provider, or object to my use of it. Just call me and I will help.
If you are unhappy with how I handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
